BGS Debating Society 1952
OB David Cainer sent us these two images along with the following commentary:
"
On the subject of photos, you might find the above picture interesting. It's the Debating Society, possibly 1952, and not the same as the one you are currently displaying below from 1953, although some people appear on both. I believe the Debating Society used to pose with the Master in Charge and the Headmaster every year. Mr Ewbank ('Spewey') was the usual Master in Charge, but on this occasion was replaced by Mr Cunningham. Spewey had a very acerbic wit. On one occasion, when one of the speakers had prepared his speech for the wrong side, he said: 'Well read it out, boy, and put a 'not' in front of each verb!' I can't identify everyone on it , but other people visiting the site may be able to fill in the gaps."

This picture is of the school uniform in 1945, modelled by me (I can't remember the cat's name..). Notice that the cap is being worn on the head. Normally it was kept in the pocket until one got near enough to the school to be spotted by a prefect!"
BGS DEBATING SOCIETY - 1953
This splendid picture was submitted to the OB site by Mrs Margaret Salmon, whose husband Geoff, an Old Boy of the school, sadly passed on in August 2004. It shows the School's Debating Society in 1953. Geoff is pictured front row on the far right.
